Original art by Eleanor Spring

I have loved to draw, paint and sculpt from a young age, and one of the most difficult aspects of choosing to pursue a higher education in science was no longer being able to take art classes at school. Fortunately, the art/ science dichotomy is more fluid than I realised age 18 and I discovered that art and humour work wonderfully together with science!

Art

Until a few years ago the only art I had done is perhaps best described as ‘fine art’ — sketching and painting. Then I worked on a project to make a children’s book, and I started playing with cartoons. So far I have used these on academic posters and cards for friends and family. Other projects coming!

Stories

Speaking of the project to make a children’s book . . . as part of my Master’s degree we were set the task of explaining our work to a particular demographic in an accessible way. I chose young children and ‘Exploring Exoplanets’ was born! I wrote and illustrated the book. I am workign to develop it to the stage where it could be considered by a publisher.
